First Dog and Running Man on sandstone
This painting is a design of my own inspired by rock art from Spain. Dogs were first domesticated and show up in rock art around 10,000 years ago. What if the first dogs still had some of the "trickster" in them and would lead hunters away from game for a merry romp?
Paint is blown and hand-painted onto the stone, the dog’s light color is created by carving in to the stone (sgraffito), recreating in miniature the art techniques of the first artists.
The size is approx. 9.25" x 4.5". It is signed on the back and a hanging wire is secured on the back and comes with a brief description card.
About the stone...
This stone is a beautiful warm Arizona sandstone. The color is subdued pink and cream with grey mineral "freckles". There is a lovely natural cliffside "trail" for the man and his dog to follow. The figures are painted with light-fast black and burnt sienna pigment paint which, with care will last another 10,000 years!
