Antelope of Algeria
This is a reproduction of a group of antelope from Tassel N’ajmer National Park in Algeria as I imagine it might have looked freshly painted 6,000 years ago. Today, the rock art on an overhang is very faded, so that some of the antelope can’t be seen. Thanks to old expedition photos and modern “DStretch” photos I’ve reimagined this group of antelope that lived in the then green Saharan savannah.
Iron oxide and black manganese paint are blown on to stone, then I carve in to the surface to create light detail areas.
About the stone...
This stone is a golden and bronze sandstone. The colors remind me of the desert that overtook the antelope's savannah habitat. The stone is 16.5" x 11.5".
