Lascaux Deer design on slate. This piece of slate was sitting by itself, so I'm not sure of the variety, but the horizontal stripes are natural stone coloring. I've never seen anything like it since at the stone yard. Size varies by stone; approx. 9" x 16" (22.86 cm x 40.64 cm)

This is a reproduction of a Lascaux red deer as I imagine it might have looked, freshly painted 15,000 years ago. Iron oxide paint is blown onto the stone, a light outline is created by scraping (sgraffito) into the surface of the stone.
